Decision Scientist - Business Intelligence

Location: Glasgow

Salary -  £33,264 - £41,500 DOE

Our Decision Science team is part of Group Business Intelligence (GBI) and do an awesome job providing the business with insightful, relevant business data to help inform strategy and aid decision making.  Their goals are to deliver Business Intelligence reporting solutions within agreed SLA’s.  They’re insatiably curious, conducting analysis of both internal and external data sets, searching for the best solutions to provide a competitive advantage.

What you’ll be doing:

As a Decision Scientist you’ll undertake business intelligence (BI) and analytical work with use of technologies available through BigInsights and other platforms.  Being insatiably curious, you’ll develop interactive business intelligence products using Shiny (web framework for R) and/or Tableau.  We’ll also ask you to undertake descriptive/inferential statistical analysis, keeping the complex simple to tell the story.  Your collaborative approach with help you engage with customers across the Bank by delivering demos/workshop and promoting knowledge sharing.

To be brilliant you’ll bring:

  • Experience of working within a similar BI role creating insight
  • A passion for data with a beady eye
  • Robust knowledge of SQL / HiveQL
  • Working knowledge of R and/or Python programming language
  • Basic knowledge of Git would be great but not essential
  • A flair for creating clear, engaging presentations
  • A lust for willingness to learn and undertake professional development
  • Working knowledge of using Spark (can be via sparklyr/SparkR or PySpark) and knowledge of Tableau but it’s not essential
  • Working knowledge of Shiny (web framework for R)
  • Some knowledge of Bash and of working on Unix-Like operating systems would be the icing on the cake!
